AN ATTRACTION : First opening to the public of the huge NIRVANA OF SAKYAMUNI hanging scroll, national Important Cultural Property. The picture shows the scenery of passing away of the Buddha; around the Buddha's bedside under the sal trees on the bank of Ajiravati River, his mother Maya, the sun and moon, many fellow pupils, many animals and birds are gathering and are overwhelming with grief. (The picture is utilized for the poster of this exhibition.)
当山宝物中一般公開が初めての国指定重要文化財絹本著色「佛涅槃図」を公開いたします。「佛涅槃図」は釈尊が跋提河（ばたいが）のほとり、沙羅双樹の下で久遠の涅槃に入られる様相を画いたものです。入滅を悲しみ枕元で菩薩衆が厳しい顔で持し、仏弟子やその他の人々、更に鳥獣まで悲嘆する様が極めて実写的・個性的に描かれています。今回の今出川特別名宝展のポスターにも使われたものです。
